Obituary for Dick Webb

Leon Edward “Dick” Webb, 87, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Johnston UNC Health Care in Smithfield.

Dick was born in Wilson County on October 7, 1932 to the late Benjamin and Lonnie Baker Webb. For 47 years, Dick worked as the assistant golf pro for the Wilson Country Club in Wilson with Grover Bullin. If it was a beautiful day he would enjoy sharing shots on the links with his friends. Dick will also be remembered by many for his love in finding the good find at a yard sale.

Dick had a wonderful sense of humor and never took himself too seriously. He was a good friend, a great husband, father and grandfather that had a generous heart. He provided a wonderful home for his family and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service followed by a service to celebrate Dick’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Tommy Hagen officiating. Entombment will be in the Kenly Cemetery.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jerrie Ferrell Webb; daughter, Jacqueline Wright and fiancée, Steve Bayley of Wilson; daughter-in-law, Mara Webb of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Casey Parker and husband Brian of Georgetown, DE, Aaron Slawson and wife Anna of Wilson, Ronnie Wright, Robert Wright and fiancée, Erin Rowzer and Ricky Wright of Topeka, KS, Melissa Webb and fiancée Shawn Jones of Yale, VA and Benjamin Webb and wife Sarah of Staunton, VA; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brzezowski, Zachary Parker, Charleigh Slawson, Lucas Slawson, Ryan Wright, Ronan Wright and Olivia Jones; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much including his niece, Dorothy Jobe Bardin of Stantonsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Webb and brothers, Russell “Junior” Webb, Clifton Webb and Tom Webb; and several half-brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Highland Independent Church, 2006 Patterson Way, Wilson, NC 27893 or to New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 5142 Hwy. 58 North, Wilson, NC 27896.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.kenlyfs.com.
